Room Make Over Done!

After almost a month, finally we managed to complete refurbishing the study room. It took forever to get someone to come fix the book racks on the wall. I almost gave up and thought we should just return the racks to my parent's house. But then my biras became my savior by giving me the contact number of the contractor currently renovating her parent's house.

So for this room, we're sticking to a minimalist concept. This room gonna be multi-functional as computer/study room plus guest room as well. So we really tried to minimize the furniture we have in here to give ample space for guests to sleep in.

The room used to be so caca-marba with mismatched carpet, curtain and furniture. Slowly we change the look to suit both of our taste. It's not really easy I tell you as the big guy likes everything to be simple and minimal while I loveeeeee decorations and and knick-knacks. So we tolerated by having things I love in a minimal way.

This is how it was before : pretty messy kan!

And here's how it looks like now!

And my fave corner has got to be this! Much to the big guy's annoyance. Hahaha!

I love this room for it's simplicity. It's gotta be my most fave room in the whole house. At least until our next make over. Hehehe!

Make over completed : Part 1

While we were planning for the study room makeover, I got an idea for another make over. Just a small one at one part of the hall. I silently willed myself to do it without informing the big guy because I knew he would disapprove. Either that, or he would tell me to do it myself.

So what's the point of telling, right?

Anyway, we have two rattan chairs placed at the balcony, which have become the target of the birds to tenggek and poop. They've become so discolored and dirty in less than one year. So I decided to varnish them and keep it in the house instead. And add a side table that we haven't been using in between. There's this one area near the main door where I thought looks empty and incomplete. It has a mirror hung on the wall, under the wall light. And nothing else. So I thought of placing the chairs and table there.

I managed to complete the makeover in just one day. A huge pat on the back for myself!

Before...

Please excuse the computer table near the door, that's supposed to be in the study room, where the painting still in progress. Hence, the mess.

After...

The best thing for the makeover is, we didn't spend a dime on it. Oh well, maybe less than RM10 for the varnish. But the rest of the things are all the stuffs that had been lying around the house, unused. Perhaps we might want to buy two cushions for the chair, but that's it. Who says you can't make over your house with minimum budget?

I just did! And so could you!

Penat bekerja keras

I never knew varnishing can be so tiring! I only did one book rack and one rattan chair, and couldn't even complete them before I start to have a back pain. I'm just gonna leave the final touch up for the big guy to complete, when he comes home later.

For now all I want to do is...tidoq!!!

Another room make overrrrrrrrr!

My bro revamped his room and letting go of most things that he deemed unnecessary in there. Among others, there were these two book racks attached to the wall that he didn't want to have there. Plus all the books. They are very very meaningful to me as had been there since I was in primary school and  they were the ones holding all my books throughout those times. Plus the fact that it's still in a very good condition as they were custom-made and not store bought. So I decided to bring them to our house and stick them up the wall in the computer room.

Alang-alang dah nak panggil orang pasang those racks, I bugged the big guy to paint the wall too. He refused at first but gave in to his wife's wailing in the end. Haha!

We thought of all the possible colors we wanted for the computer aka study room, and decided on GREEN! Why green? Because the color is cheerful! And if we are to have a daughter later on, we can just add some pink and white furniture to the room and then they would look as sweet as my new handbag!

Blue + green pun not bad eh?

But then again, my eyes can’t get over yellow paints too, so  in the end we decided on the YELLOW GREEN Matex paint from Nippon Paint! They’re cheap, totally BRIGHT and I hope they’ll look good on the wall. If not, then we’re just gonna have to keep the door to that room close all the time until we could paint it another color again! Hehehe.

Oh, I so want these racks for the study room!!! Tapi takdak duit nak buat, sapa nak sponsor, angkat tangan!? Hehe!

Anyway, our racks and furniture in the room ain't gonna be white like in those pictures. Though they would look magnificent combined with the wall color, unfortunately we do not have the budget to revamp the whole look in there. Thus, we will make do with what we have. We would just varnish some of it to make them look brand new, I hope!

Anyway.

I was the one so excited with this project, but up to last night it was the big guy is who did all the jobs from sand-papering the old racks to clearing the room for repainting. Ringan tulang sungguh! That's why I love you so strong laling! Heeeeeeeee!

His wall of fame

I've been meaning to post about the feature wall in Irfan's room, but I was always either too lazy, or forgot all about it. It's not done completely, I can't believe it's very hard to find a small size - 3R and 4R frames - that have hooks at the back to hang on the wall.

Now I'm thinking maybe I should make my own DIY frames to be hung at the wide gaps in between those drawings. Anybody can give me a lesson on how to make my own frame?

He can now identify bear, moon, apple, fish, Ayyan (Irfan) from the wall. Suka betul dia.

And I should start making more of these, maybe some Pocoyo and Barney characters in smaller scale. Irfan really loves the wall! That's good enough reason to get me crafting again.

Yesterday's House Project

One of the supermarket in Bayan Lepas, Sunshine Square was having a Merdeka Sale yesterday for only one day, so we went there to get Irfan's milk supply and some other stocks. Hubby had been surveying this one rack to install in the store room, and somehow he likes the one in Sunshine compared to Giant and Tesco. Kat hardware shops tak jumpa pulak this thing.

So since they were having sale, we went to get it and he installed it immediately once we got back home. The result....

At first I thought it looked too small but once installed, it fit in nicely with our small storeroom. We got it for RM160, but my neighbour said it is a tad too pricey. I think she got them cheaper, but I'm sure it's not of the same quality.

Does any of you know the average price for the rack?

Fridge Magnet Anyone?

I started with the artwork for our fridge this morning but had to stop because Irfan craved for my attention I had to entertain my boy. So earlier tonight while I was still in the mood, I worked as fast as I could to complete it. It's nothing grand, but rather cute I would say and it add colors to our fridge. Now all I need is more cute fridge magnet to compliment the artwork. Anybody care to give me a belated birthday present? :-p

Nah, I present to you our very own sesame street characters, stuck on the fridge!

Irfan went to the kitchen, took a look at the fridge and said "Taaannntiiiikk!". Oh, that really made my day.

*Bila lah dapat stick Irfan's artwork on the fridge door plak..*

Let's Spring Clean!

So since I'm feeling very productive today, I plan to :

- Settle the laundry
- Vacuum all carpets in the house
- Wash all the alas kaki and the one small carpet
-Tidy up and clean up the study room
- Dust the bookshelf and arrange the books
- Hand wash some clothes
- Ironing
- Clean up the dry yard

Huh, too ambitious rite? So since I'm really in the mood, I better tear myself away from the lappy or else...the mood will go away.

No more YMing, no more blogging and blog hopping, no more facebooking. And here comes spring cleaning!!

Baby one more time!

Lerrr...apa nih, tak abeh-abeh lagi cerita pasal bilik Irfan? Hehe...oh yes I know you guys might get bored, but until we're completely done with the room, I can't help but post on the progress of the room deco.

So today we finally settled on filling the white frames with the selected pictures. It was quite hard to choose the pics as most of those that I wanted to develop were in landscape position. But I finally selected the final five on the weekend and so we took some time to survey the price for 8R pictures first, and I'm telling you guys that the most expensive ones we found was a shop in Tesco. They quoted RM10 per piece and when I asked the assistant if they can discounted the price, the bodo sombong guy who acted like he was the boss other guy arrogantly said to his assistant, 10 RINGGIT AND NO LESS! without even glancing at us. Hubby called up our photographer friend and he said the most expensive would be RM6 for 8R. So guys, don't develop your pictures there.

Anyway, we always developed our pictures at this shop beside Gelugor Post Office as it came highly recommended by our photographer, but somehow this time we wanted to try do it somewhere nearer to our home. Hubby dropped by the shop at Desaria yesterday and the tokeh told him it'd be RM6-RM8 per piece, depending on the quality of pictures that you want. So since the shop is near to our house, he decided to develop it there rather than driving all the way to Gelugor to have them developed.

We paid RM7 per piece, and the result is very satisfactory. We would definitely use their service again.

My favourite piece, coz it shows the affection between father and son

Anyway, the tokeh mentioned to hub that they do the booklet/coffee table book printing as well and the price range from as low as RM20 (smallest booklet that you could hang in the car) to RM220. That's quiet cheap isn't it? Can somebody give us your professional opinion on the price, as we're quiet interested to do a booklet on Irfan's birthday party pics?

Lampu katak

Our house has got some awkward wiring points especially in the bedrooms, thanks to the previous owner. Like in Irfan's room, there's only one lighting point at one of the walls, and there's no point whatsoever for ceiling light and we're too cheapskate to do it our self. All these while we'd been using lampu kalimantang as the wall light, but once we decided to do a makeover for the room we went shopping for a proper lamp.

I fell in love with this froggy lamp, despite the SA's warning that it only holds an 8 watts bulb, thus would not be able to illuminate the whole room. I just had to get it because it's just so darn cute and that was all that matters at that time.

Until hubby fixed it on the wall and we finally got to use it last night. Once switched on, Mr Froggy emitted just a small amount of light that I swear it only illuminated itself and not even the photo frames placed just couple of inches below it. Sangat2 tak memberi kesan okeh.

It's just too dim that we have to switch on the table lamp, and yet the room still won't be as well -lit as I'd hoped it to be.

Now, can somebody please come do the wiring for ceiling lights in Irfan's room, FOR FREE????

*Tips for the day* I got this tips from Deko Idaman on TV3 yesterday. You can use lampu kalimantang (if I'm not mistaken) to create a wonderful effect for your bedroom. The lamp need not be fixed on the ceiling or wall like we always do, instead put it behind your headboard (bed) provided that the headboard is placed close to the wall. Once swithced on, it'll instantly create a romantic mood, and best of all ... IT'S CHEAP!! Do try it out and let me know of the result k.
