Our favourite Malaysian breakfast!

We are no classy people.

Dome, Chili's, TGI or Roadhouse Grill are not our second home. Even during the time that we were courting, the big guy had never tried to impress me with fine dining. Most of the time, it'll be either fast food, mamak, or stalls by the roadside. Brainy man he was, because once married, I don't get the urge for fine dining except on occasions. Tu pun tak lah fine takat manaaaaaaaa kan. Your everyday restaurants are fine dining to us.

Anyway, I can't deny the thrill I get to eat by the roadside! I just love the hustle-bustle ambient and most of the time, the food stalls by the roadside are the ones that will make me eat like a pig an elephant. I don't know about you people, but to me most of the gerai-tepi-jalan foods are to die for! Literally. Hehehe.

So on Saturday before we took off to Pekan Rabu with the in-laws, we had our favorite Malaysia breakfast at my favorite Malay stalls in Bukit Ayun. The food, though they have varieties, are just so and so . But the ambient keeps calling to me and makes me wanna go there again and again, again and again!

See, whenever we eat at this place, I would suddenly develop a hugeeeeeeeeee appetite and transfer all the food on the seller's table into our table! Hahaha. Tamak sungguh!

But I can't be blamed for that. Even the little guy had sooo much appetite to eat a hearty breakfast that morning. Just look at him stuffing his face with food!

Ohhh Mister Googly Bear, when will you bring me to have a hearty breakfast like that again?!?!? Nom nom nom!

What about you guys? What's your favorite Malaysia breakfast?

The simplest is always the yummiest!

My mom has been complaining that I never cook 'simple food' for Irfan. You know, dishes like Masak Kicap and Sweet n Sour. Not that I didn't want to, but I'm so used to adding in lots and lots rempah ratus to my cooking, that whenever I try to make simple Masak Kicap, it always turned out tasting weird.

Today, after getting sick of all the heavy raya dishes, I can't get my mind off the kicap dishes. So I made Masak Kicap Ikan Bawal for the little guy and I. And this time, I managed to really limit myself to the basic ingredients as per my aunt's instructions. Believe it or not, we both anak-beranak ate like there was no tomorrow! Heavenly I tell you.

Now, I better start preparing other dishes before the big guy gets home, or else I would never hear the end of it : "Kesian kita, makan nasik dengan kicap saja!".

Cooking Frenzy!

Since my biras posted about the food that she's been cooking this Ramadhan, suddenly I felt the urge to do the same so that I could get rid of the pictures from my phone. So here goes, in caca-marba order!

Same old dishes, ayam ayam ayam!

Trying out new way of making fried chicken. I think it tasted quite good, marinated with the usual garam kunyit, plus a bit of rempah kari Babas + Rempah Briyani. But then, it wasn't such a hit with the big guy, he still prefers the same old Ayam Goreng Rempah.

My mom's mean custard jelly, as Papakeechee put it! One of the little guy's fave deserts.

When there's so many leftover food, what to do with them? I chopped  the leftover chicken and boiled some potatoes to make filling for these fried sandwiches. It's a bit too oily though, any suggestions on how to fry them without retaining oil so much?

Lastly, my kuih sagu lembik which turned out edible after all. My mum even suggested I make some for raya nanti. Wahahaha!

I'm a cooking machine!!! What about you? Hehe.

Ramadhan with Pizza Hut

This Ramadhan, we only break fast outside once with the big guy's colleague. We couldn't bear the thought of hassling with other people in public space to break fast. But last week, I just couldn't put the thought of McD fast food outta my head. I miss them so! So we decided to break fast at Pizza Hut since McD punya daging konon tak halal plak!

Since gluttony conquered my nafsu that day, we ordered so many things and ended up not finishing them all. But thanks to the little guy's big appetite, the food did not go to waste. A lot of it went into his stomach, processed and then came out as vomit! Yerp, he ate too much that night sampai muntah hokeh!

He started with the mushroom soup and garlic bread which he walloped all by himself, followed by my prawn olio, fish fingers, lots and lots of meatballs, and ended his feast that night with a piece of Pizza. See, sungguh bernafsu dia makan hingga ke crumbs terakhir. Mana tak muntah!

So what about you guys, did you eat out a lot this Ramadhan?

Kuih Tradisional Bloopers

This ramadhan, I've been quite adventurous and wanted to try all new things that I haven't attempted to cook before. Some turned out well, others were totally hazardous to be eaten!

After slaving over the stove making them, I sure as hell got disappointed everytime the thing I cook didn't turned out the way it's supposed to be. So today after my first ever attempt at making traditional kuih-muih turned out disastrous, I thought why not I post all these bloopers in my blog, and perhaps get some suggestions from the readers on how to make it right!

So here goes, my kuih sagu in the making.

And once it's ready, it is just too runny that IF I still want to bring it for iftar at my mum's, we just gonna have to eat it with a spoon! Haha! Confirm la ramai will complain, so better forget it!

I think I might have use less amount of sagu than required, and a bit more water than supposed to. I approximately used 2 mugs of water and about 100g of sagu, so can anybody tell me the correct measurement to make it kenyal like it's supposed to be?

And before I throw it away, can it be salvaged in any way now?!?!

Iftar at our house

I thought we would not be hosting any bukak puasa event this year. But it just so happened that my dad's birthday fall on this month and so I thought what best way to celebrate it than having Iftar together, isn't it?

So we planned a potluck at my house, and the big guy BOUGHT chicken briyani while the rest bring other dishes to complement it. It was fun, and the best part was it wasn't so tiring because ramai tolong basuh pinggan the food was store-bought! Hahaha!

I've been telling the little guy earlier that today is tok abah's birthday and once he arrives, you gotta sing him the birthday song. But he refused to accept the fact that it was somebody's else birthday and NOT HIS, so he had been giving me his long face until he saw the birthday card my sister got for our father. with his name in it. So he finally accepted the fact that it was his granddad's birthday, BUUUTTT his name was in the card wishing him a Happy Birthday. He was all satisfied then! Haha! Such an attention-seeker!

It was nice to gather with the family but still many of the siblings were not around. And all of the little guy's cousins weren't there so he got to be the center of attention tak lah meriah sangat kan! But we still had fun!

See~ Very the menyibuk nak bukak hadiah tok abah dia! Jatuh henfon tu kang sapa nak ganti?!? Mak tak sangguppp!

Then sibuk nak testing baju baru his granddad too! Tsk tsk

The next day, we had my in-laws over for bukak puasa pulak! I cooked simple-simple only lah! Tu pun penat k! I made nasi tomato and ayam masak merah plus my signature fried chicken and seriously I had no time to sit down and mingle so much as there was so much cleaning up to do afterwards. Nak ambik gambaq pun tak sempat!

It was sure tiring hosting 2 Iftar consecutively, but I was satisfied because we get to give food for orang berpuasa. Alhamdulillah. Hope for more rezeki to host such events in the future.

What about you guys? Ada hosting any Iftar recently?

Egg in A Hole

I'm sure you people have come across the egg-inside-the-hole-sandwich before. I don't know what it's called, but apparently it was featured in one movie before this.

Anyway, though I didn't have all the ingredients (read : cheese and mayo) in the fridge, I still wanted to make 'em for the big guy. So I made do with what we had instead. I used these for one set of roti telur : butter spread on the 2 pieces of bread, sprinkle a pinch of salt, lotsa black pepper, an egg and some chilie sauce.

Because the big guy was too lazy to take out the oven from the store room, I had to make do with grilling 'em in the microwave instead. It took foreeeeeeever to cook in the microwave, that I managed to iron a pair of work clothes for the big guy while waiting! But I'm glad I made it anyway.

Because? The big guy loves them!

However, despite the presentable look, I still don't like it. BUT. If you like runny egg ala half-boiled egg, then you would love this. The big guy even asked me countless of times on how I made them. But since he loveeeeeessss 'em to bits, he can be sure that I would never ever tell him the secret of making the roti-telur-lubang-tengah.

You know why?

Because it's gonna be add to the 'List of Things That You Can't Do Without Me'! Muahahaha!

Kerana Donut Enam Ketoi

Yesterday, it was decided that we would go to get the doughnuts I had been craving for, before it was time for bukak posa. As the big guy was starving once he got back home, I had to complete cooking all the dishes so he could eat before we went out.

He had been requesting daging dendeng since earlier this week, so that's what I cooked yesterday. While  the beef was frying in the pan, I came to the hall nak lepak2 jap. Only to catch the big guy red-handed trying to ... LEAVE A COMMENT at Beautifulnara's blog. Hoyeh hoyeh! Laki haku dah mula nak berjinak dalam dunia blogging oh-kay! So don't be surprise if you guys come across The Drama Dada blog pulak after this. Hahaha!

Anyway.

I'm going to leave you guys with the doughnuts pic to drool over. We went through such horrible, horrible traffic to get it. Our car also buat hal tengah jalan, but the journey had go on. Because I CRAVED FOR  SWEET SWEET DOUGHNUTS GODDAMNIT! We arrived at J.Co just in time for my break fast in the car! Lapaq kebuloq dah that time rasa macam nak telan 6 ketoi sekali ngap!

Semuanya ku harungi demi keranamu Incik Donut.

Makan ka melantak ni?

As said earlier, I'm in the midst of puasa ganti marathon. The first day (yesterday) was so very tiring. After a long break from fasting, that is. To make it more challenging, the little guy seemed to develop a huge appetite yesterday, demanding to eat everything that he could name!

Puasa-puasa ni, uols faham la kan. Even a plain 'spaiteti' soup can make me drool. And the little guy just wouldn't stop with a bowl, he wanted two bowls to wallop in one seating! Saja nak menguji iman mak dia la tu!

Then, I don't know what was going on yesterday. But all of a sudden, so many bloggers blogged about food. Thus it heightens my gluttony level to tahap paling dewa di abad ini! I wanted to have so many things  for berbuka that I got confused in the end. So we ended up having asam pedas + daging cincang for bukak puasa dishes.

But lucky me, I guess! Since orang tak berpuasa also craved to eat something that was unavailable last night, we ended up eating something that I had been craving for quite some time. The Black Pepper chicken from KFC. With Mister Potato as side dish. FOR SUPPER ok. Haha! Nafsu gajah betoi! Lepas supper, perut sebu tak boleh tidoq nyenyak sampai pagi!

Huwaaa! Sedap melampau, better than Ayam Goreng Spicy McD my fave!

No more eating like orang tak makan sebulan after this! Or else I will end up bloating like a balloon once the marathon is over!
