My fun childhood memories

*WARNING : THIS IS A LONG-WINDED ENTRY BUT IF YOU SOMEHOW MANAGE TO READ EVERY SINGLE WORDS UNTIL YOU REACH THE LAST DOT OF FULL STOP, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT YOU WOULD FIND IT WORTH YOUR TIME. HAPPY READING!*

I have always love parks and outdoors. I love having a long trip to look at new places rather than spending time at the malls, unless if I really have things to buy, or to catch a movie. I don't know why, but I guess because when I was still young, my dad always brought us to these kind of places during school holidays, rather than spending every free minutes loitering the malls. Yes, we went to malls when we had things to shop for, or food to devour Oh my, suddenly I miss those yummylicious hot dogs from White Castle. But other than that, we didn't spend more time than we needed to at the malls, not to just window shop or anything, at least that's not what I remember about my childhood pleasures.

What I remember is that, growing up, my dad would bring us to all these parks and parks alike in Penang like the Youth Park, Bukit Dumbar, Taman Rimba and a lot of other places where we'd play balls, frisbees and whatnots. Imagine all 7 of us would be running in the opposite directions and scattered everywhere at the parks, trying to have fun in our own ways until it was time to go back. What a blissful way to spend your time with family!

And then, I was always so excited when The Yearly Book Carnivals were back in town, because my dad would surely bring us there, every year, without fail! And of course the peak of the excitement was when we'd be allowed to buy a few books each, as I just can't wait to get my hands on those mystery and detective novels that I used to love so much! I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised if I tell you that during those days, my motto was : Makan, buku, tidur buku, minum buku!

Holidays were spent at libraries too. You just name it - all the libraries in Penang - I'm sure we've been there. But the ones that we frequented last time were the (state?) library at Dewan Sri Pinang and USM library (since my dad worked at USM). However, if you ask me which library I loved most, it has to be the children library housed at this old mansion at Scotland Road. The ambient there was just so relaxing with bean bags and children's study table set, but the fact that it got rows and rows of Sweet Valley novels was the main thing that got me hooked up to that place. There were times when I wished my parents would forget all about me and leave me behind so I could sleep and wake up every morning with all those books in my arms. Haha! Over kan?

And oh, let's not forget that yearly, most-awaited-for Pesta Pulau Pinang. We'd be having so much fun screaming our lungs out on those cool rides, being scared until we shit in our pants to death in the Rumah Hantu, and roaming the streets after that eating those soft pinky cotton candy! Who cares about the crowds, being able to devour those soft cotton candy while playing some shooting games really was worth the crowds that we had to jostled through. Heavenly I tell you!

During my university days, I still wasn't much of a mall-stalker and I enjoyed being outdoors more than I did being cooped up in the malls, unless, like I said earlier, I got movies to catch or things to shop for. Thus, I really enjoyed going out with my families and younger cousins because most of the times that's what they wanted to do too.

But some of my studio mates back in Uni did enjoy being outdoors too so once in a blue moon we'd be having days / nights out doing things we enjoyed like simply roaming the streets to engage in people-watching activities or just have a walk in the park. When I was about to get hitched, I even forced my friends to throw me a bacholerette party at the Sentul Park, poyo kan? It was such a pretty park and we did have fun having our little picnic there, so I'm glad somebody came out with that idea. ;-)

Now, I really want Irfan to have the same kind of childhood that I had, filled with outdoor activities and so much fun so that one day, he would be able to look back and smile while he tells the story of his fun-filled childhood to his kids and grand-kids.

So let's start with buying him a rockstar jacket for the Cameron trip, shall we hubby?

I used to want to have a library at the house too, but space is limited. Tapi adala one tall book rack in the study cum computer room, just have to expand later huhuhu
